Prayer Shawl Ministry
Compassion and the love for knitting and crocheting were combined by Janet Bristow and Victoria Galo in 1998 to create the Prayer Shawl Ministry which is now celebrated in churches all over America. Through this ministry, the women of First Presbyterian Church of Avon Park reach out to those in need of comfort and solace, as well as in celebration and joy. Knitting needles and crochet hooks busily click away and needles pull thread to make shawls, lap robes, afghans and quilts to be distributed to shut-ins, those needing comfort and healing. Each shawl, lap robe, afghan and quilt is blessed with the laying on of hands and prayer before it is delivered and presented with private prayer with the individual receiving it.
This ministry is open to any woman who feels led to participate, however, it is not limited to women; men and children are welcome to participate! If you are interested, we can help you learn one of these skills!
